A preliminary assessment of the phosphorus content of the substrate underlying ferromanganese crusts was undertaken for selected seamounts in the Hawaiian eez.
A total of 18 substrate samples from the Hawaiian eez and 1 from the Johnston Island eez were separated from the attached ferromanganese crust and analyzed for a suite of 27 elements. Today western nations consume annually only a small percentage of their resources from the sea, despite the proclamation of Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) by many.
In contrast, most Pacific Basin Countries obtain more than a quarter of their annual needs from the ocean. Determination of greater rewards from the development of marine resources is markedly inhibited by the limited technical 5/5(2).
Phosphorite-manganese crusts were dredged from the flanks of seamounts of the Kiribati and Tuvalu EEZ (Exclusive Economic Zone) from water depths between and m.
Samples from Kiribati consist of phosphatized algal laminations, coated grains, filamentous and unicellular by: An ideal mine site might be one where the substrate rock is phosphorite, in which case it would be desirable to collect both phosphorite and Fe-Mn crusts at the same time.
This approach would provide two potential multi-component ore deposits in one mining operation, one with P and REY co-products and one with focus metals (Co, Ni, and Mn) and. Update of the Statewide Geothermal Resource Assessment of Hawaii: GeothermEx, Inc.

The renewed strong global interest in extraction of offshore marine mineral resources has affected New Zealand as a country which has sovereign rights to the world's fourth largest Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).Internationally, most commercial marine mining ventures to date have focused on aggregates, diamonds, tin, magnesium, salt, sulphur, gold, and heavy minerals generally confined.
A resource assessment methodology is described and used to estimate the resource potential of cobalt, copper, nickel and manganese within the EEZs of the Hawaiian.
